North Lodge is located in a Conservation Area and lies immediately adjacent to a Green. Mature trees and cul de sac location gave the house a secluded feel. The clients loved their house and had already commissioned a large amount of interior refurbishment ( kitchen bathrooms and large conservatory) before this new phase was commissioned. The brief was to create a two-storey side extension. The clients wanted a large garage and a new master bedroom and en suite all to be located on one side of the house. An existing drive led to a small garage that was inadequate in size for their vehicles. My impression of the house was that it was stunning inside but that the exterior lacked the same elegance. After discussion the clients were persuaded not only to build the wing but also to face-lift the rest of the house. This included replacement of entire set of windows and enliven the rather plain facade with new openings. High performance windows were installed as well as a new simple slate porch which replaced the rather quaint one. To save costs the garage was reused as a gym and wine store and connected via a new corridor with super views of the garden. The main focus inside was the creation of a dramatic vaulted master bedroom, dressing room, ensuite and a private balcony where breakfasts could be enjoyed amongst the trees. An existing shower room was also upgraded. A new wet room was squeezed between the new wing and the existing garage.
