New Build
Completed in 2016, the £800K research facility was built to complement the permanence of the adjacent 19th century house and the previous extension which Andy Bridger and Deborah Carr completed in 2009. The confined nature of the site and its topography lead to a uniquely shaped structure comprising 7 offices for an additional 27 staff members, two consulting rooms and a laboratory room. The design of the building was created in Revit and the coordinated model was produced with the design team. Acetylated timber cladding, renown for its longevity and low maintenance requirements, was used as a striking and permanent feature to guide visitors to the new entrance. Although there was no formal requirement to comply with environmental legislation other than Building Regulations, environmental issues are taken seriously in the design and construction phase and so, the design team carried out its own environmental assessment of the design based on BRE Environmental Assessment Methods (BREEAM). The client team were delighted with the scheme. "It has been a pleasure again to work with Andy Bridger and his team. They clearly understand the needs of a modern healthcare environment, while providing striking architecture and memorable design that echo the philosophy of the innovative, high quality research that takes place within the Bradford Institute for Health Research" Professor John Wright, Director of Research Bradford Institute for Health Research
