New Build
The brief for this cutting-edge Critical Care Unit and Bradford Royal Infirmary was derived through consultation with Clinicians, Control of Infection, Operational, and Estates teams. With the team we undertook precedent tours and factory visits to look at exemplar projects and state-of-the-art equipment. This highlighted new ideas and working practices, to combine with all the best bits from their own. Nursing staff and patients were involved in workshops to develop the interior design for the unit. Through consultation with clinical staff, an innovative layout was developed incorporating 4 bed bay clusters, overseen by twin workstations, enabling Nurses to function as a step-down capability from critical to high dependency care. Patients benefit from this as it allows them to remain in one space during their recovery. For the Trust and stakeholders it provided greater efficiencies and flexibility. The outcome is a very calm and therapeutic environment for patients, staff and visitors alike with an enhanced infection control strategy, an efficient nursing regime and optimum privacy at the flick of a switch. 100% single bed-space occupancy benefits patients and staff, and can lead to less sedation, quicker recovery times and happier, healthier patients, visitors and staff, all of which represent efficiencies to the Trust. The contractor was appointed under the NEC3 contract, which was administered by a Trust appointed Project Manager, with whom we worked closely to ensure the best outcomes for the Client.
