In the design of this demonstration house, which was filmed by the BBC, we analysed and considered all aspects of sustainability, from the procurement of raw materials to their disposal following useful life expectancy. The house featured innovations in construction through the use of sustainable materials and prefabrication. Construction, fit-out and commissioning were achieved in 12 weeks, approximately 20% quicker than traditional methods. Resource conservation included super insulation, solar heating for living spaces and grey water recycling. These measures enabled the occupants to use 50% less energy and 30% less water than in traditional housing.
