New Build
The Sports Lottery funded 8 lane Cricket Centre was designed for Warwickshire County Cricket Club to be a landmark building for the Club and the City. Featured in Birmingham’s Terracotta trail and the Birmingham Civic Society Heritage Buildings guide, the indoor centre is a community use building for sports and leisure. The building was designed to reduce the reliance on mechanical ventilation, heating and artificial lighting which cuts capital expenditure, prolongs the life span of these elements and thus reduces maintenance costs. Natural daylighting and a low design temperature meant that the use of artificial light and heating could be kept to a minimum reducing the more significant running costs of the building. Passive solar shading and ventilation help the building cool in summer months. During the design process Bryant Priest Newman invited Artists to collaborate on the project. A successful ABSA grant funded photography, poetry, and sculpture along with an eight by twenty five metre artwork, and lighting scheme facing Pershore Road a main gateway into the city.
