The new school development comprises six smaller pavilion buildings integrated around a full height internal street, which provides the main social, primary circulation and learning space. The new build pavilions of mainly two and some three-storey accommodation are constructed towards the eastern site boundary and will replace the entire building stock on site. The substantial area remaining between Haxby Road and the buildings beyond will incorporate soft landscaped space, including further tree planting. It will also bring the current disparate car parking together as one secure managed space utilizing the existing access and egress points. The new school respects the character and appearance of the surrounding area being constructed mainly of brickwork to match the local vernacular with some timber and render elements to create focal points and signify entrances. Internally, the open, dynamic environment embraces sustainable principles including the use of natural ventilation, maximizing daylight within, and reflects a fully accessible, inspiring school for the 21st Century.
