New Build
Second Floor Lion House , 3 Plough Yard , London , EC2A 3LP , United Kingdom
The Phoenix brief provides a fantastic opportunity to create a building that will encourage and facilitate social cohesion and community development. This concept led to the proposal to house the various user groups in a single elegant structure to provide a social, economic and efficient solution to their brief. The building has a simple shed-like timber frame infilled with timber cassettes and SIPS. A sawtooth roof gives reference to its industrial construction method while providing north rooflights and south facing PV and solar hot water units. A flexible hub space is at the heart of the ground floor. A credit union, community café, training kitchen, start up business pods and informal meeting areas spill out into the hub to give the entire ground floor a sense of community and place. Sustainability targets are achieved through the following: Lightweight low carbon timber structure Off-site modular construction Ground source heating and cooling Natural daylight through north rooflights and atrium Sawtooth roof orientated for PV and solar water heating Rainwater harvesting for flushing toilets
