The design and delivery of a mixed use development for B&Q, includes an elevated store with car parking below and future residential units to the side. Situated on a brownfield site adjacent to a busy junction on the A3, the development uses 50% less land than similar stores at ground level. Integrated into the design is a highly visible vertical axis wind turbine which not only helps to deliver the 10% on site renewable energy responding to the Merton Rule along with PV panels, but also market the brand and sustainable image of B&Q. Northlights provide natural lighting, reducing the need for electrical lighting and saving on running costs. The quality of light enhances user comfort, encouraging customers to spend more time (and money) in the store. Sustainability targets are achieved through the following: -Ground source heating and cooling (GSH&C) -Photovoltaic panels -Green roof -North light glazing -Underfloor heating and cooling -Solar water heating -20kw VAWT -Natural ventilation -Improved insulation performance -Low water use fittings -Thermal zoning -Intelligent lighting
