The long-awaited Cleethorpes RNLI Lifeboat Station is now fully operational on the seafront. After construction began in April 2022 and resumed in February 2024 under Wynne Construction following earlier delays, the new two-storey facility is complete and serving the community. ? On 8 August 2025, the RNLI moved its D-class lifeboat and essential equipment into the new station. The on-site shop, featuring a view into the boat hall, opened ahead of schedule and had a highly successful opening weekend with over £4,000 in takings. Within just two days, the lifeboat crew responded from the new facility to three separate callouts - towing a disabled cruiser, rescuing individuals from a capsized vessel, and assisting a yacht in difficult conditions. The station delivers transformative improvements to safety and service: A beach-front slipway now allows instant boat launches directly into the water, reducing response times and eliminating the former need to cross a busy road. Enhanced amenities include workshop facilities, changing rooms, volunteer offices, and an integrated RNLI shop with modern conveniences. With capacity for both the D-class and the more powerful B-class Atlantic 85 lifeboat, the station can operate in a broader range of weather and incident scenarios. This striking facility promises to be a vital seafront landmark and community hub for years to come.
