This detached five storey private house is perched on the side of a hill between two existing historic houses in a steeply sloping, suburban woodland. The dynamic contemporary form is a contrasting respond the traditional architectural style of it’s neighbours. The house is, conceptually, composed of two distinct elements: a main ‘core’ which is the solid, heavy anchor of the house deep rooted into the hillside, and an ‘eye box’, a dynamic, lightweight floating element projecting from the core, both a visual statement in itself and structurally designed to float above the tree tops and avail of the panoramic views of Belfast Lough.
