The OLA Future Factory is a huge step towards an EV revolution in India with potential of a significant worldwide impact. With sustainability and a green future at its core, the Future Factory masterplan considers green technology in design, manufacturing, process and product. The masterplan consists of multiple buildings arranged around the central mega-factory building called the megablock. The megablock is 700 x 300 m in its full size with a large central courtyard measuring 30 x 150 m. The courtyard is an unconventional addition to the factory form and green lung to the building. It positively contributes to a healthier working environment and productivity of the workers within the factory. Alongside, Ola’s EV manufacturing unit is the first factory in India to have an all-women workforce, and makes a statement towards a socially equal future for the country. From machinery to structure, signage and overall look and feel, the OLA Future Factory has been designed and curated by our team to create synergy and balance between the functional and aesthetics elements. While the factory and ancillary buildings are typically only given attention as functional spaces of serial production, the planning and design processes have helped to make the processes much more efficient, the spaces visually decluttered and allowed the workforce to feel emotionally supported in their environment.
