Benoy has brought the Bullring back to Birmingham! The new Bullring opened in September 2003 and is embracing an appealing mix of attractive walkways and covered streets, public spaces and events areas. Building on the historic street patterns of the city, the Bullring is once again linked to the retail heart of the area around New Street and High Street with St Martin's Church, the local markets and Digbeth. The Bullring has brought four new public spaces to Birmingham. These new areas will capture people's imaginations and allow the Bullring to take on a new sense of place and meaning. The floating Skyplane roof gives the Bullring the look and feel of a clean, fresh, open air environment and the mix of covered and open streets has successfully linked the Bullring to the rest of the City. A bold plan which will revitalise the heart of Birmingham around St Martins, its oldest parish church. It will replace the tired, sixties shopping centre, providing 1.2million sq.ft (111,500 m²) of retail, leisure, catering and markets together with performance areas, a new bus station, and will relocate the indoor market to its present purpose built site at Edgbaston Street and Pershore road. The Market sells a wide variety of goods, some home-grown and others imported from countries around the world, such as China, Barbados and Africa. Major highway alterations, breaking through Birmingham’s ‘concrete collar’ will integrate the development fully into the rest of the city.
