Victoria House , 199 Avebury Boulevard , Milton Keynes , MK9 1AU , United Kingdom
Beaufort House is a central Birmingham residential development project and involved the conversion of an existing 7 storey post war brick built office building and two storey roof top extension to create 88, 1 and 2 bedroom private apartments for sale and ground floor retail/commercial space. The building is at the heart of The Jewellery Quarter conservation area and, whilst not a listed building, is an important part of the heritage of the area. The conversion of the existing building was achieved by the permitted development change of use route and external alterations and extensions were separate planning applications. Significant thermal, acoustic and energy improvements were made to the building during the course of the development including window replacements. The top two floors are expressed as a lightweight glass extension to the contrasting existing brick facades and stepped back from the street frontage to balance the weight of the extension on the existing structure.
