bblur architecture has been commissioned to provide a pavillion for the open pelota court in a small village, Manzanares de Rioja, located in the central La Rioja region of Spain. The court is located at the heart of the village attached to the church and adjacent to the main square. The brief required the solution to keep the court as a functional recreational court while creating a cost effective covered space for the community to be used for annual Fiestas and public holidays. The sculptural solution uses traditional techniques and materials to create a contemporary focal point for the village with the ability to be built quickly. The scheme is due on site in early May 2013 for completion in August.
