BB&C Architects won the competition for this new Boathouse with a design inspired to be a continuation of the Gonville and Caius College’s history as one of the University’s earliest boat crews. The reflective style pays homage to Fawcett, the architect of the College’s original boathouse, and remains identifiable to former students and rowing enthusiasts. The new Boathouse contains ground floor storage for over 35 boats, a workshop for repair and maintenance, a large central atrium, and also provides space for a disabled toilet/shower room and the Boathouse Manager’s office. On the first floor a large double height naturally ventilated gym is served by well proportioned changing facilities. To the west a new vaulted storey provides a multifunctional space for crews to reflect and review their rowing, socialise or house formal celebrations.
