The original house was built just after the turn of the millennium and was purchased by our clients around 2014. The project brief consisted of internally remodelling and extending the property to create a contemporary dwelling and open the building up to the views across the river and up to the English bridge. The scheme involved extending the first floor to improve the master bedroom layout and capture the extensive views of the river which also created an overhanging canopy to the ground floor area below. The internal spaces were simplified and the entrance hall had larger windows placed again in order to bring in the views and light. The flow of the property was simplified and the corridors were reduced in length. As part of the proposal a garden room was also created and was orientated towards the river. The scheme was put forward for the LABC awards and won at both local and regional level placing it in the national finals. Base Architects not only managed the planning application stage of works, but also undertook the Building Regulations, Tender and Contract Administration providing our concept to completion service for the scheme.
