This project involved the creation of a lakeside lodge which was set within an existing parcel of land and was designed around creating a visual connection with the lake and the main residential dwelling. The building form and materiality was developed to respond to the client’s main property and to integrate into the landscape proposal for the site as a whole. The exterior of the building uses a limited palette of oak timber cladding and natural slate which responds to the surrounding woodland setting. Large sliding doors to the south and west providing a direct link to the paved seating area and jetty. The internal space has been carefully curated and designed with vertical white timber cladding continuing from the walls to the ceiling, with all internal doors being designed as fully concealed and flush to maintain the crisp and clean lines of the space. By working with both the main contractor and the client the finish of each of the internal surfaces was carefully reviewed and investigated to ensure a finish which met all of the client’s aspirations for the space. In collaboration with the interior designer the furniture and lighting fittings were selected to reflect the clean lines of the architecture and the natural materials of the building. This collaborative approach to the project by the Design Team has resulted in an exceptional building and a space which will enable the client to enjoy the lake all year round. Base Architects not only developed the initial design and planning stages of work but also undertook the building regulations, tender and contract administration elements providing our concept to completion service for the scheme.
