Treliske Health & Wellbeing Innovation Centre at Truro’s Royal Cornwall Hospital is an award winning, sustainably designed, ERDF funded development of medical sciences laboratories, offices, meeting, conference, exhibition and refreshment facilities, able to accommodate up to 70 enterprises. In addition to the Council, stakeholders included the University of Plymouth (operators) and various NHS clients. The centre is a place where users can share information and technical knowhow, network and encourage growth and innovation in the health sector. The practice developed the design from planning stage and worked with BAM to deliver this Innovation Centre. The building has been constructed to high environmental standards so has lots of natural sunlight and ventilation, tree planting for natural shade, rainwater harvesting and a biomass boiler. It has also been designed to be highly accessible for disabled people with all areas wheelchair accessible, a high contrast colour scheme, audio communication and assisted changing facilities. The scheme achieved BREEAM Excellent. Winner of regional and shortlisted for National LABC awards.
