Alteration to existing property, New Build, Brownfield site
Bailey Partnership (Group) Ltd
Lyster Court , 2 Craigie Drive , The Millfields , Plymouth , Devon , PL1 3JB , United Kingdom
Bailey Partnership were commissioned to extend and refurbish an existing SEMH school, changing the cohort from boys age 11-16 to a mixed cohort of Key Stage 2 & 3, ages 7-13. The school had suffered from a lack of investment over many years and had inherent problems including issues with condition and maintenance, physical and visual barriers, accessibility, areas that created conflict, poor internal environment and poor quality external spaces. A phased approach was taken to extend the school to nearly twice the size and refurbish the remaining areas both internally and externally. Existing issues were designed out such as creating wider corridors, improving accessibility and creating more comfortable internal environmental conditions. Working closely with the school, a bespoke solution to meet BB104 was developed to deliver a high quality building that enhances and raises the quality of education provided. Works were completed in phases working around the pupils and staff, taking into account the many particular issues surrounding pupils with SEMH (Social Emotional Mental Health) issues. The delivery has been truly transformational for both the building and for all the pupils and staff.
