Established in 1843 and known as QVSR; the building provides living accommodation for active and retired seafarers, ex-servicemen and other adults. Based in the East End of London, QVSR has over the years refurbished many of its communal areas. The largest element of redevelopment by far started in 2008 on the bedrooms. This is still being carried out in a number of phases to minimise disturbance and displacement of residents. 2011 saw the completion of the Wesley Wing and the Royal British Legion Wing was officially opened by Barbara Windsor MBE. Upon completion, the site will provide larger, high quality, en-suite accommodation, including accessible facilities for up to 160 residents, vastly improving the existing facilities where up to 15 men can share a communal bathroom.
