The Old Post Office , Station Road , Wickham , Fareham , PO17 5JA , United Kingdom
The site was a redundant NHS Nursing Home and was purchased by the Client to redevelopment for their own detached family home. The brief was for a new detached five bedroom, three storey house was a triple garage. The Client was specifically looking for a Neo-Georgian design. The Planners had other ideas and because the site was on the edge of the market town adjoining 'Countryside' they were looking for a 'farmhouse style' design in red brick to suit the local vernacular. Axis Architecture undertook a survey of the closest dwellings to the site and established that 85% of the properties had white render Georgian characteristics, proving this was the true 'local' vernacular. The Planners accepted the evidence and allowed the design.
