New Build, Sited in AONB
The Old Warehouse, Old Market , Nailsworth , STROUD , Gloucestershire , GL6 0DU , United Kingdom
Austin Design Works became involved with the design for a new club house some years ago after the club purchased their new home ground at Hollybush Farm, Minchinhampton, near Stroud, Gloucestershire. As with many community projects its success has been due to the huge effort by the management team and volunteers who have put lots of energy in to applying for grant funding and organising successful fundraising events. The design for the club house is derived from a traditional agricultural pole barn; constructed using simple timber-framing, clad and insulated externally to give volume inside, with roof lights and polycarbonate windows filling the space with daylight. This simple and economical construction allows for a phased build, adaptable and versatile, with few internal finishes needed. The club now has more than 250 minis and juniors playing with them and this led the drive for the creation of the refectory space, medical room and changing rooms to be completed first. Both home players and visiting teams have had to rough it in shipping containers with alfresco showers whilst funding was obtained for the new facilities. The club house was officially opened in March by HRH Princess Anne and has subsequently won a Council for the Protection of Rural England award, been shortlisted for a structural timber award and Matthew Austin, ADW director and architect has won a Mitsubishi Volunteering award for his contribution to the project.
