Tower Hamlets
£2m to £2.99M
Within a Conservation Area, New Build
AWW has been appointed by Tower Hamlets Schools Ltd to design and deliver a Sixth Form Centre at Stepney Green School. Stepney Green Maths, Computing & Science College is a boys’ comprehensive school and one of the top schools in the Borough. The current proposal will be a variation of the PFI concession and will be funded by the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. On the boundary of the site, the building will be an iconic standalone sixth form building comprising general classrooms, ICT rooms, science labs, an art studio, study centre and recreational facilities. The project will enhance the recent development on site procured through the BSF programme, but forge its own identity, acting as a flagship building on a prominent urban site. The site sits just outside the conservation area and close to the major redevelopment of the adjacent Ocean Estate. The Brick chosen creates a cohesive story between the heritage setting and new developments, and places the school within the wider residential context. This will be a landmark showcase building for the school. Planning was obtained in January 2015.
