Swansea Arena sits at the heart of the Copr Bay masterplan, acting as a catalyst for the wider regeneration of the city. Positioned as both a cultural landmark and a regional attractor, the venue draws new audiences back into Swansea, many of whom may not have visited the city centre for years. At 8,654m², the arena is highly versatile, accommodating 3,500 people in concert mode, 2,196 in theatre mode, and 788 in conference mode. Flexible hospitality and event spaces have been designed to maximise revenue opportunities, ensuring long-term viability and community benefit. AFL Architects was appointed following the successful delivery of Hull’s Bonus Arena, another transformational cultural project. For Swansea, our team led the Stage 3 review and advanced all architectural and interior design packages for subsequent stages. This included the development of a fully coordinated BIM model, automatic clash detection, and the creation of a promotional video for the operator. The arena acts as an anchor within the Copr Bay masterplan, reconnecting the city centre with the coast and marina along a new north–south axis. Its exterior design presents an equal dialogue to every approach—city, traffic, and bay—through a fluid façade of bifurcating curves that respond dynamically to the internal programme. A fully glazed ground level ensures transparency, creating clear visual connections between the foyer, VIP suites, conference areas, and the adjacent landscaped park. Swansea Arena is more than a performance venue; it is a key driver of regeneration, embedding culture, commerce, and community at the core of Swansea’s future.
