The multi-storey car park (MSCP) at North Manchester General Hospital marks the first phase of the £500 million New Hospital Programme, setting the tone for a major transformation in healthcare provision across the site. Delivered in partnership with Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, the facility provides 964 parking spaces across five levels, including 36 EV charging bays with capacity for a further 100, and a 140-space cycle hub with showers and changing facilities. As the first entirely new-build element of the programme, the MSCP was designed to make a strong statement of intent, reflecting the ambition of the Trust and the wider NHP. The building’s high-specification cladding creates a striking first impression, while a fully glazed stairwell and green-roofed entrance canopy support wayfinding across the reconfigured hospital site. Alongside car parking, the facility encourages sustainable travel through its state-of-the-art cycle hub, which includes secure storage, a maintenance station, and well-equipped changing areas to promote active travel for staff. AFL also supported the reconfiguration of surface car parks, improving both vehicle circulation and pedestrian access while integrating additional EV charging infrastructure. Together, these works enhance connectivity across the campus and reinforce the Trust’s commitment to sustainability, accessibility, and the future of healthcare delivery.
