At a capacity of 17,250, Gtech Community Stadium is the joint home of Brentford FC and London Irish RFC. Forming the centrepiece of a wider mixed-use masterplan, the development delivers a new model for community stadia, combining elite sport, residential growth, and urban regeneration. Working closely with the club from concept through to delivery, AFL Architects provided architectural and interior design services for a venue that balances ambition with authenticity. Designed in tandem with a robust business plan, the stadium provides Premier League and UEFA-compliant facilities, first-class hospitality and an enhanced supporter experience, while remaining true to the spirit of Brentford FC. The stadium was conceived as a future-facing, medium-capacity venue with the flexibility to host football and rugby, as well as major events such as the UEFA Women’s European Championship. Its business model aligns commercial performance with community value, ensuring long-term sustainability for both clubs. Hospitality design was guided by in-depth market analysis and financial modelling. Each lounge, suite and concourse was tailored to specific audience demographics, with views, finishes and capacity ratios carefully benchmarked to optimise experience and revenue. This approach resulted in hospitality packages selling out months before completion. Architecturally, the stadium responds to a uniquely constrained site bordered by the M4 and two active railway lines. The triangular form maximises capacity and sightlines within this tight urban context, while its integrated residential developments contribute to a vibrant, mixed-use neighbourhood. The stadium’s distinctive bowl form creates a strong visual identity, while leaving room for future expansion. AFL led extensive stakeholder coordination, including close engagement with Network Rail to assemble and deliver the complex masterplan. The design accommodates dual branding through adaptable lighting and neutral but distinctive interiors. The hexagonal motif woven throughout the scheme references both Brentford’s ‘Bees’ identity and the geometric precision of the stadium’s structure. Seat colouration has been designed to produce a full, dynamic appearance even at reduced capacity, enhancing visual impact during broadcasted matches and live events. Now a defining landmark in Brentford’s regeneration story, the Gtech Community Stadium stands as a forward-looking venue rooted in local identity, a home that reflects the clubs’ shared ambition and connects deeply with their supporters.
