The new housing required the demolition of 20 locally listed almshouse bedsits to create 30 modern almshouse apartments. The flats are designed to be fully wheelchair accessible with ‘dual aspect’, including views, natural ventilation, dynamic and diffused light. In addition, all the flats have an external space, either patio or balcony. The concept was to create a ‘community of living spaces around a central courtyard’ where residents feel protected and have a sense of belonging.
