High Peak
£0.5m to £0.99M
New Build
This new build, low energy house is located on an elevated site overlooking the town in Glossop on the edge of the Peak District. With expansive views across the valley to the hills beyond, the brief was to create an upside down layout with bedrooms positioned on the lower level and the main living and kitchen space at first floor to maximise views and light. The house adopts a low carbon design with a focus on renewable energy utilising solar panels and an air source heat pump alongside other environmentally conscious features such as SuDS drainage, rainwater recycling and low embodied carbon materials including a timber frame. The form, materials and aesthetics are driven by the semi-rural location and the nearby farm buildings and the aspiration is to sit the building comfortably into the landscaping by working with the contours of the sloping site and nestling it into the slope. The alignment of the upper level is derived from the orientation and sun path, with glazing positioned carefully to maximise solar gain and encourage natural cross-flow ventilation. This new build house aims to reflect local agricultural traditions whilst clearly being a contemporary addition into the rural landscape. The low energy design adopts Passivhaus principles and minimises the carbon life cycle of the building whilst helping to reduce energy bills.
