Alteration to existing property, Sited in AONB
This project aims to create a bespoke, low energy house extension that will provide additional space for the homeowners whilst providing a sensitive, high quality addition to the property that responds positively to the site’s rural context. The existing property is detached stone-built farmhouse dating from c.1900 which sits within several acres of land including woodland and a small quarry. Located within the Forest of Bowland AONB, the site is in a rural setting opposite a collection of farm buildings and cottages, with views across the Ribble Valley towards Pendle Hill. The primary goal of the proposed design is to provide the homeowners with additional family living space and a better connection to the rear garden and surrounding landscape. This will be done with a strong focus on environmentally conscious design and a bespoke architectural design that references the character of the landscape setting. Inspired by the rural setting, the design draws on the vernacular of agricultural barns and sheds to reflect the farming heritage of the area and to create an attractive, high quality response to the site and context.
