Listed Building - Grade II, Within a Conservation Area
Bridge Chapel Centre , Heath Road , Liverpool , Merseyside , L19 4XR , United Kingdom
The proposal is for the alteration and extension to a Grade II listed building, Woodleigh Lodge, a former lodge cottage to Woolton Hall, within a conservation area to provide a single-family dwelling suited to modern spatial needs within its existing curtilage. It includes a first floor extension with a vaulted ceiling to the existing single-storey extension to accommodate the master bedroom, and a double height glazed curtain wall extension to the rear to create a fully naturally lit open plan kitchen/dining/lounge area affording full views of the garden. We were the Architects from inception of the design, and provided a full architectural service from RIBA Work Stages 0 through to 7, which included developing the design, careful liaison with the Local Planning Authority Planning and Conservation Officers to satisfy their requirements, Building Regulations, tendering and Contract Administration through to completion. The detailing and choice of materials for the project was of utmost importance due to the historic nature/character of the house, where we were required to respect and complement the architecture of the building. In the end, we struck a balance with a first floor extension matching the character of the existing with matching sandstone and a glass extension which both differentiates itself with a modern appearance and respects with it's gable roof.
