Alteration to existing property, Brownfield site, New Build, Within a Conservation Area
First Floor, Sunley House , 46 Jewry Street , WINCHESTER , Hampshire , SO23 8RY
ArchitecturePLB helped Alleyn's Junior School to expand its facilities to accommodate more students. The practice developed a design concept and strategy to do this, including expanding the school's infant and reception years to two forms of entry. The new building is defined as a series of pitched roofs, with the smaller administrative offices forming the solid plinth. The internal layout of the existing building has been reconfigured by removing the hall and administrative facilities, to accommodate the additional teaching spaces. The form and materials were chosen to respond and compliment the adjacent school and residential buildings.
