The completed design replaces an existing house in the Arts and Crafts style from the 1920s that just wasn’t suited to modern living arrangements. The new modern home suited to contemporary living requirements for the 21st century. Alternatively we have proposed a modern scheme which is better suited to an open plan form of living, providing spacious living spaces and for bedroom that are flooded with an abundance of natural daylight. The scheme consists of two wings, one wing consisting of all the living and community spaces and another wing consisting of sleeping quarters with a sunken garage accommodating up to four cars below. A summer house to the rear of the property forms a large courtyard to which the house looks onto. The house is secluded by trees which give the house a good feeling of privacy. On the street frontage the elevation is quite modest and understated and doesn’t reveal to much about itself where as the rear elevation is much more open, fully taking in the view of the garden. The client asked for a contemporary design solution, and we have added to this with good environmental and sustainable design.
