This is the refurbishment and conversion of a detached 1960’s house, located in the South Downs National Park, SDNP into a contemporary family home. This required the conversion of small cellular rooms into an open plan, flexible layout, maximising the bright and airy character of the existing house. The traditional cladding of Sussex barns was reinterpreted to provide a contemporary aesthetic using stained, locally sourced western red cedar timber cladding. All new extensions have been completed to near Passivhaus standard. Combined with the energy improvements of the existing building fabric, this has resulted in a 50% saving on heating, despite more than doubling the size of the property.
