Sited in Greenbelt land
Architect That, The Cottage , West Hampstead , London , NW3 , United Kingdom
Situated in the greenbelt, the new proposal replaces under-utilised commercial and storage buildings, provides much needed repairs to the existing Grade II Listed Manor House, upgrades and extends the existing listed cottage and sensitively replaces the existing gatehouse. Thirteen unique new homes have been delivered, each preserving the character, appearance and openness of the immediate and surrounding area. In order to retain and enhance the historical significance of the Manor House and its setting, a new courtyard has been designed adopting a circular plan, allowing the houses and layers of landscaping to ripple in and out from its centre. Vistas of greenery beyond improve as the greenbelt land is drawn between the boundaries of each home and into the heart of the development. Accessed through the historic courtyard to the North, the new community with its central pond and curving lines is envisaged as a contrasting contemporary interpretation of local vernacular.
