Sitting within the dramatic and desolate landscape of Dungeness, Dune House was inspired by ever changing landscape of the surrounding landscape. The easterly tides and winds push the shingle up the coast, leaving visible traces of its progression and age. These take the form of shingle ridges whose height reveal the changing sea level throughout the decades. The project primary brief was a redevelopment of a dilapidated bungalow, with a contemporary twist fit for a family to use as a holiday home. The proposal is a modern design that embodied the surrounding site of Dungeness, through taking direct inspiration from the ever-changing landscape to shape the contemporary bungalow. This can be seen from the pitched roof inspired by the shingle ridges of Dungeness, allowing natural light to flood the proposal and encompassing the surrounding nature within the design, and the materiality of the project.
