Alteration to existing property
arch/FORM were approached by the client with an exciting design brief. They were seeking to create a new bedroom and en-suite, expand the existing bathroom, and opening up the rear of the home to create an open plan kitchen - living - dining arrangement. They were also looking to re-model the home and update each of the rooms to add their personality to the spaces. We worked with the client to develop their brief further and through discussion additional features included solar shading, modernising the glazing arrangements, an air source heat pump in tandem with MVHR (mechanical ventilation and heat recovery) and an updated, more private driveway were added to the scope. We achieved this be extending the front of the house over the existing garage to create the new bedroom and en-suite, making the most of the existing footprint. We then extended to the rear to create the additional space required for the clients desired kitchen specification. Design cues were taken from the client's desire for crittal style glazing in the open plan space which we married up with dark timber cladding. This was then introduced to the front elevation to make the extensions and renovation cohesive. The new rear extension opts for an exposed rafter design, adding character and visual interest to the ceiling, echoing the solar shading which sits on the rear patio. We then tied this through to an existing extension to the house, which was to be re-roofed to provide an increased level of insulation and remove the existing felt roof.
