Long Common House (Private Client) This project began as a major refurbishment of an existing 1950 heavily extended dwelling on a site that demanded a better resolution. It quickly progressed to a demolition and New build. Our initial response was well received by the client to create an imposing , but well-crafted traditional Arts & Crafts styled dwelling that maintained a sense of ‘Home’ running throughout the internal spaces internally. Our Appointment for a Full service - RIBA Stage 1-6 , began on site in late 2020 and progressed to a completion May 2022. Throughout the delivery of this project, the client played a key role in making decision quickly and efficiently to maintain progress. The Main contractor played their part in delivering a sub contract chain and supervision second to none and an overall finish product that all can be truly proud of. The project was designed within very traditional parameters; the use of approach axis articulated with feature windows from the public realm to the alignment of internal rooms with hearths at the centre of the focus. The overall selection of materials and their use focused on detailed brickwork & stone attenuations , particularly at the main entrance. The window detailing with traditional stone / brick/ oak subframes and PPC metal casements & lead detailing works in harmony to the overall finish. This in addition to a number of traditional green Oak frames enforces the Arts & Crafts design ethos. We believe the final dwelling and its associated landscape incorporates well onto the site maximizing the view in & out and provides the client with an energy efficient future proofed home.
