This project remodels Histon’s Victorian village school into a centre for all sectors of this thriving community. At the heart of the scheme is a larger hall for 150, and a smaller hall for the ‘Stepping Stones’ pre-school childcare. Elsewhere is a play space for the pre-school and others, a church office, and a space for youth. The front of the building is transformed with a stylish cafe providing a warm gesture of welcome. The site, which is in a conservation area, is extremely tight, and the retention of major elements of the Victorian buildings has meant careful sequencing of the works was essential.
