The brief was to create a high-quality, modern family home – yet restrained and not ostentatious. Privacy and security were also key requirements that we wished to express in the architecture rather than by way of complex security systems. Although located just outside the conservation area, the project still warranted a heightened level of scrutiny by the council due to the lack of bespoke new-build homes in the area. In some ways the clients wanted a “traditional” family home but did not want to create a pastiche of the Victorian villas that surround the adjacent park.
