The practice was appointed to undertake a feasibility study for the Stables at Knightshayes Court. The stables are used as the visitor centre, shop, café and plant sales spaces, since its conversion by the National Trust in 1987/8. We were commissioned to develop concept idea(s) that centres on the re-organisation of these aforementioned spaces and whether it would benefit from any new building or conversion. The practice was also requested to assess the visitor flow from the car park and advise if there were any ways of improving the arrival of vehicles and visitors. ?The Stables are located to the north of the main house. Knightshayes Court park is centred around a grade I listed country house. It is described by Nikolaus Pevsner as ‘an eloquent expression of High Victorian ideals in a country house of moderate size’. The house is grade I listed and the gardens and grounds are grade II*, the stable buildings are understood to be curtilage listed.
