The Grade I listed property has been well preserved over the years and little altered. The Tudor manor house is located in the east of Cornwall and is on the banks of the River Tamar. The house has a series of formal gardens and a richly planted valley garden, with a medieval dovecote, stewpond, and Victorian summerhouse and an 18th century tower with fine views. Cotehele House It is one of the least altered medieval houses in the country; it contains original furniture, armour and a set of remarkable tapestries. It is understood that the origins of the house date from the late 13th century and the present house was built between 1485 and 1520 during the reigns of Richard III, Henry VII and Henry VIII . Sir Richard Edgcumbe, was rewarded for his loyalty at the Battle of Bosworth (1485), he then started to completely remodel the original 13th century property. Following his death his son continued to remodel and completed the house. The local granite and slate used to build the house is durable and together with the family building and moving to Mount Edgcumbe resulted in Cotehele being comparatively little altered over the years. The family moved to Mount Edgcumbe in the 17th century but they continued to own Cotehele until 1947 when it was accepted by the Treasury in payment of death duty and given to the National Trust. This was the first property in Britain to be acquired by the Trust via the "in lieu of death duty" route. Alex Bolt the principal of the practice was appointed by the National Trust to advise and guide them through a listed building application to re-roof parts of the main manor house. This involved detail schedules, specification and method statements on how the works would be undertaken and how they would be photographed and logged for historical referencing. The practice provide continued support to the property team at Cotehele and have recently completed a purpose built joinery workshop, to aid the maintenance and repair of this fantastic estate.
