Emerging from a mature beech wood, graceful curves lead you towards the main entrance, with the landscape softly enveloping the accommodation within. From the entrance hall, you are drawn past a reflecting-pool that lies at the heart of the house where a moving floor raises flush for entertaining larger gatherings, or lowers to become a swimming pool. The principal reception rooms are arranged beyond along the southern elevation and divided by sliding walls. Lofty ceilings and extensive glazing allows sunlight to flood in, with a high thermal mass tempering the prevailing climate, saving energy and encouraging cross ventilation and fresh air for most of the year. Whilst practical and pragmatic, it is a home, a place to entertain, a neutral foil for furniture and art, and sensitive to its unique surroundings. Image credits © Will Pryce and used with permission
