The six residential apartments and two retail units are contemporary yet mindful of the sites historical and architectural context. Due to the nature of the scheme, detailed discussions with Northampton Borough Council were required. This new build project is key to opening up the site and gives an active front to Wellingborough Road with use of modern materials including glass and render. Sustainability was addressed at the earliest design stages to ensure a sustainable design was put forward to the client. Air pressure testing at completion stages indicated the building substantially exceeded current Building Regulation requirements and the design achieved BREEAM Very Good ration and Code 3 for sustainable homes. Due to the site’s location, security requirements were a key consideration. Security standards were implemented at the earliest stages and through liaising with the Secure by Design Officer the scheme has obtained a SBD certification.
