The Thornbury Centre is a new build multi-cultural church and community centre. It accommodates a worship space for 400 people, a community cafe, crèche, multi-purpose sports hall and numerous support rooms. The spaces are organised around an internal ‘street’, which allows rooms to be naturally lit and ventilated; it also helps users to easily navigate themselves around the building. Our project team worked closely with the client group to achieve a welcoming, user-friendly centre that is used by a variety of religious groups from the surrounding area. The development was funded by the Millennium Commission and completed in 2000. We now undertake quinquennial inspections for the church, ensuring the longevity of the building.
