New Build
Flower Pod was conceived as a Social Enterprise, for charity ReachUK, who help adults with learning difficulties, by providing them with meaningful occupations. The aim was to raise funds through the sale of English grown cut flowers. The concept for the building is in keeping with the reduced carbon footprint ethos of English grown cut flowers, being built of totally renewable material. Straw bales provide both the structure and the thermal insulation. Organic and breathable lime plaster creates the internal and external finish to the straw bales. The roof is clad in cedar timber shingles and insulated with sheep’s wool and wood pulp board, to create the ultimate eco shed. The accommodation is very simple, two large rooms that provide flexible office, classroom and working areas, a kitchenette and accessible toilet.
