New Build
Cross Street Eco Town is an award winning development of sustainable new build two and three bedroom dwellings. They are the first Code for Sustainable Homes (CfSH) Level 5 dwellings built for L&H Homes, and were only two credits off achieving Level 6. We worked closely with the local authority to design a streetscape that reflected their regeneration aims for the area. The houses use a variety of sustainable design techniques to reduce energy demand, beginning with a fabric first approach. This included the use of structurally insulated panel (SIPS), to achieve low U-Values and outstanding air tightness results. A mechanical ventilation and heat recovery sytstem (MVHR) ensures heat produced is kept in the dwellings, and triple glazed windows and doors have been installed. Additional eco technologies, including fifty photovoltaic panels and rainwater harvesting, were incorporated into the design. The development secured funding to monitor in-use performance; the results will inform how to build better, more efficient buildings for tenants in the future.
