This is an unusual underground house set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) near Winchester. The concept is to maintain the view over the building with a lawn roof. The building has a shallow form facing south which maximises solar gain in Autumn and Spring, whilst the deep brise soliel moderates excessive solar gain during Summer months. It has a high thermal mass, which creates a cool summer environment which is combined with a thermally efficient building envelope which therefore requires very little energy input to maintain excellent temperatures throughout the year.
