New Build
Basepoint , 1 Winnall Valley Road , Winchester , Hampshire , SO23 0LD , United Kingdom
On the morning of Thursday 19th June 2014, the 800 year old St Peter’s Church in Ropley was almost completely destroyed in a catastrophic fire. The devastation was extensive, almost nothing of the interior or roof has survived – even the contents of the church safe were exposed to such heat that only fragments of the register survived. Alexander Design have following a series on consultations with different societies, heritage bodies and the local community including the PCC have created a visionary and inspiring design for a building that will offer modern facilities whilst preserving and stabilising what remains of St Peter’s Church. The project will require the dismantling of the fire damaged church before rebuilding can commence and the bronze clad extension to the North can be constructed. An innovative new war memorial has been designed by the Practice through the provision of bronze faceted light suspended from the ceiling which is perforated with the names from the salvaged and lost war memorials.
