Within a Conservation Area, New Build, Alteration to existing property
Basepoint , 1 Winnall Valley Road , Winchester , Hampshire , SO23 0LD , United Kingdom
This project is an extension and redesign of a 1976 courtyard bungalow. The solution envelopes, but retains the courtyard within a two storey glass enclosure which has an opening roof. The building is a contemporary form clad in oak with zinc roof set within Winchester’s conservation area. It is both contemporary and sensitive to its immediate surroundings and unashamedly of its time and its origins. St Faiths won a Commendation from City of Winchester Trust for Design in a Conservation Area in 2013. The judges are quoted as saying "It is a very accomplished piece, negotiating its way between a courtyard wall edging the street and a house set back in line with its neighbours. This is a very subtle piece of infill indeed which deftly accommodates many nuances of its context, including a magnificent magnolia tree; a thoughtful and rich exterior."
