Project summary: The full refurbishment of a London townhouse in addition to a two-storey side extension, single storey rear extension to the lower ground floor & roof extension. The property in Belsize Park is a semi-detached paired villa in the Italianate style dating back to the 1860s. Alex Tart Architects worked closely alongside experienced interior designers, K&H Design to sensitively extend and modernise the family home. The extensions have been approached with a highly contemporary aesthetic to contrast with the retained period features and style of the upper floors. The planning process within the context of Camden’s conservation area required sensitive dialogue with the council to navigate the property’s conservation requirements. We guided the project team through the planning submissions which included the consolidation of several units back into a single family home. Status: Completed
